With the right investors, I think that there's a hand full of old car companies that failed in the past who could be resurrected as limited production brands, much like Ferrari or Lamborghini.
Examples:
Pegaso
Duesenberg
Hispano Suiza
Delahaye
Iso Rivolta
And the most recent
What are some "Dead Brands" that y'all would like to see brought back into the market?

Kaiser, Packard, Hudson, Graham, De Soto - none of which were exclusive limited production brands.
Facel Vega, Cord, Delage, TVR, Frazer-Nash - all of which were.
Edit to add: a bunch of dead Germans as well: NSU, Borgward, Hansa...

I still love the G8. I would do almost anything for a G8. And an updated GTO would be awesome!

Pontiac - I want a new Trans Am, because that's just one of the coolest names I can ever remember being given to a car.
Apart from Interceptor. Interceptor's good too. Better even.

I'm really for the idea of resurrecting Pegaso. I'd do it as part of a way to help bolster Greece's economy, and hopefully get a grant from the EU to do so.
Something like Koeniggsegg, but maybe with a superfast GT car as well. Something supercharged and utterly elegant.

No no no let them rest in peace. With todays rules and regulations they would not have the freedom to create the cars that those prestige names deserve to have.

Packard. Or Marmon!

Mercury. (obvious answer is obvious lol)
But Buick has proven there is room in the market for a "Middle" brand. And Ford sold more Mercury's in it's final (seriously it was announced dead) year than they sold of Lincolns last year.

FFS just leave Duesenberg alone! The last three attempts to revive the name met with disaster. Besides, any vehicle they can produce today would only shame the Duesenberg name. Duesenbergs were built without input from accountants or focus groups on profit margins and the bodies were tailored to the customer's request. It cannot be done again correctly. The closest a new Duesenberg could come would be a company offering bare bespoke unibodies that could receive differently-styled sheet metal exteriors and interiors with a choice of engines.
I'm not sure how Pegaso would come back; I'm guessing it would be all hand-done body work with a front engine V12, maybe something plucked from Mercedes or AMG?
For Iso Rivolta, take a Gallardo or 458 Italia and install a GM crate engine, possibly the LSA or LS9.

Easy answer: Pontiac.
Harder answer: Eagle.
Fill it with niche cars, only ones that don't suck this time. An Outback competitor in the vein of the AMC Eagle, or even just a new Magnum with a lift. Take the Dart, make it AWD and give it some actual horsepower. Boom, new Talon. It was always a badgeneering brand anyway, so give them something built off the 4C. All kinds of weird but cool ideas that don't necessarily fit with the rest of ChryCo's corporate images. Hell, just make it a Scion competitor.
Mostly, I just want a new Talon dammit.

I don't want any of these to come back. Mostly because the investors would make sure to slap the storied names onto a bunch of Camry clones or crossovers to ensure sales. The spirit behind the brands would be tossed into the wastebin.

I didn't mean lincoln lol.
I meant bring Mercury back as a true middle brand and rise lincoln back to where it should be.

Imperial. GM has Cadillac, Ford has Lincoln (yes, I know), and Chrysler hasn't been an upscale luxury brand in the same vein since the 1940s at least. In my mind, Chrysler is on the same level as Buick, a sort of semi-luxury brand.
I'd love to see brands like Packard and Delahaye revived because of what they were, even if the idea of a modern Delahaye just sounds odd. The chances of someone actually funding that and getting it off the ground are a lot less than a major corporation reviving an old marque they already own.
![]() 04/17/2014 at 13:03 |

I would like to specifically say one brand which SHOULDN'T come back. Ever.
Aside from the fact that technically it's still not dead ...
DeLorean. The DMC-12 is so closely associated with it, producing any new car under the brand would be a waste.
Now, if some other brand wanted to make a modern version of what the DMC-12 was supposed to be before the PRV V6 and emissions controls neutered it, I'd be fine with that... but the DeLorean brand is a shrine to a single model at this point. Reviving the brand would just be killing it all over again.

Pontiac. It was run into the ground with shitty cars. However, with the resurgence in "throwback" muscle cars, I think now would be a great time for them to throw their hat in the ring with the Firebird TT

They'd come out with something appropriately terrible for 2014, and we'd be crushed. Let the classic brands stay legendarily dead, forever frozen at (or near) their primes. Like Hendrix, Joplin, and lord knows I'd hate to see what Cobain would be like today...

+1 on Pontiac.

As a massive Mercury fan, and a guy who has ton quite a bit of ford, mercury (when it existed) and lincoln advertising.

I'm a Ford, Lincoln, Mercury guy too, but I can see why Ford gave them the axe. If Ford brings back Mercury, they're going to have the same issues Chevy is having right now. The majority of the vehicles in Chevy's lineup are boring and have a perceived cheapness to them. Chevy can't up the quality and design of their vehicles because GM has Buick in there holding them down. Think about all the great improvements Ford has been able to make in design and quality since Mercury has disappeared... though I would really love to see a new Cougar on the Mustang platform.

You should be more informed about Ford Motor Company if you're going to claim your a stock holder. I've specialized in International Advertising for Ford for almost 5 years now. I can assure you we sell Lincoln in South Korea, as well as the Middle East. It's also sold in Puerto Rico (not really another country though).
In fact the top seller for multiple years in the Middle East was the Grand Marquis as Mercury was also sold there.

Well I think the only way to do it is handle things like the MKC/MKZ and maybe the MKX under the Mercury brand and not even have a Lincoln in that segment. Leaving the larger cars/SUVs to Lincoln where they can be more upscale like the MKS, MKT, Navigator.
And a new cougar would be bad ass.

They still plan on making turbo-gas powered Saab's along side the electric ones. In fact, they are currently making gas powered versions (the reimaged sedan/wagon/convertible are due out this Summer). They just started delivering to dealerships the other day. The electric ones are off in China.

Dusenberg would give GM a place to park all those 16 cylinder Cadillacs they never put into production.
ASSuming they didn't look like a giant Hyundai (fucking Maybach), I think they could get $200-300k for a balls out effort.

AMC if only for 21st century versions of the Pacer and Gremlin. We could use a car company that thinks a little out of the box these days. Though that it probably what helped do them in to begin with.
